Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art Aperture Series @ 24mm: Alabama Hills Rainstorm Creek (Nikon D850)

The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art has been out for a while but I had never reviewed it. Well, I’m fixing that on this trip, along with the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art and the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG HSM Sports. I’ve already shot a lot of material with all three.
This near-to-far aperture series evaluates lens performance from f2.8 through f/11. It assesses sharpness, point spread function, lens symmetry, field curvature and secondary color correction.
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art Aperture Series @ 24mm: Alabama Hills Rainstorm Creek
Includes images from f/2.8 through f/13 along with a 2-frame focus stack at f/13, at up to full camera resolution.
Overall image rendition is gorgeous (color, contrast), but there are some issues found here at 24mm.
This creekbed is dry nearly every day of the year, but it had rained heavily all night long (an “atmospheric river” storm), a relatively rare event here. There was enough rain to cause road damage, indeed to cut hunks out in places and to turn some sections into creekbeds.
Frame marked f/13.1 is a 2-frame focus stack.
