Staying Warm While Photographing
Staying warm can be a challenge when standing around taking photographs in cold or even moderately cool weather.
All four seasons of the year including summer are a time for down and wool (think high elevation and night and wind).
Even in moderate temps, the Western Mountaineering Flash XR down jacket is a great 'piece'; it weighs almost nothing, stuffs small and so is a terrific emergency and comfort piece to just have along, just in case. Most remarkable for a down jacket, the Flash XR can take pounding rain for a good while due to its special outer fabric as well as being just about windproof.
Layers work best for everything I do. Shown below, I’m wearing the Western Mountaineering Flash XR jacket with Western Mountaineering Flash down pants and a well used and loved Ibex wool jacket. It was about 25° F, and I was having a really nice day up at 11,300'.
Zipped up and with hood on, this down/wool combination is big bear cozy, but it’s too warm for active movement like cross country skiing or winter bicycling unless the temps drop to 0°F or so, which is why I always use layers, rather than one extra thick piece.
The down jacket and pants are also an optional for additional warmth for sleeping in temperatures down to 0°F or so, inside my Western Mountaineering Sequoia GWS Sleeping Bag.
Not shown are my favorite Ibexwear NZM Gloves and hat. See also my Cool and Cold Weather Cycling pages.

I couldn't agree more about the Ibex Europa. It is your fault that I have a small corner of closet designated for Ibex clothes.
Since they have sales and close-outs from time to time I am a binge purchaser. Great to wear for outdoor walks and great stuff to work out in whether you run or ride.
DIGLLOYD: me too. Great stuff, and knowing its so good I load up on things I wear out like gloves.
My one Ibex regret is no more of the sturdy and comfortable Northwoods wood pant (my four pairs are wearing out). There is a new Ramble Wool Pant (which I’d like to try), but it appears to lack the zippered thigh pocket that I have found so useful over the years (e.g., for car keys, pocket knife, wallet, stuff I must not lose).
