Nikon D800E: Moiré
As shown in Making Sharp Images, certain types of digital artifacts can be reduced or eliminated by stopping down.
As shown in Guide to Leica for the Leica S2 (which has no AA filter), diffraction acts as an anti-aliasing filter; moiré can be reduced or eliminated by stopping down.
For the 36MP Nikon D800E, I expect that the kill-moiré aperture will be about f/11. Along with that, one will of course lose overall contrast and particularly micro contrast on very fine structures, but such is life— a compromise of realities, diffraction being the culprit and benefactor both.
