New Case Study in Making Sharp Images — Leica 28mm Comparison
Just published in Making Sharp Images (which should be your priority investment over any lens or camera if you are after sharpness) is a new case study documenting how a brand-new out-of-the-box Leica 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH shows strong backfocus as comapred to a spot-on Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH on the Leica M9P.
Don’t assume ANYTHING about new gear— test it before assuming it works properly.
What would help? A Live View feature on a future Leica M camera, so at least if rangefinder focusing were off, one had recourse. Ditto on recourse for a decent LCD that would allow a focus check instead of the low-res screen on the M9/M9P which cannot be used to check focus— too low on resolution, and the M9 won’t zoom in to actual pixels properly, a defect which has existed since day 1.
